We strongly advise that you separate your terrarium drainage layer from your activated charcoal and terrarium soil with a layer that wont degrade and deteriorate over time.

If you do not have a mesh separator between these layers, soil will fall in to the drainage layer and the water in the drainage layer will become rotten and infect your whole terrarium over time and cause it to fail.
