About this plant

Norfolk Island Pine Tree

Also known as Monkey Puzzle Tree, Monkey Tail Tree, Piñonero, Pewen, Chilean Pine Araucaria heterophylla

Plus minus 1 meter tall.

Water regularly when young. Especially so in dry times. Water less once established. Once every 7 -10 days.

Full sun to partial shade. 

Prune to keep shape and promote bushier growth.

Can be brought indoors over the Christmas period if grown in a pot. However be sure to keep it outdoors for the rest of the year.

We deliver nationwide with The Courier Guy: Pudo locker R89 or to your door R145. Gauteng customers can also collect in Boksburg (R25).

Orders ship from our depot within 7 working days, and most are on their way sooner. A few rarer plants are ordered in specially for you, which is why we allow 7 days. Couriers don't deliver on weekends.

Every order is packed by hand to survive the courier.

A 1m Norfolk pine with tiered branches

Araucaria heterophylla · also known as Norfolk Island pine, Norfolk pine, star pine

Native to Norfolk Island (South Pacific)

A conifer with soft, needle-like leaves on neat, horizontal tiers of branches. It is not a true pine, and it is a different tree from the monkey puzzle, though both are Araucarias.

  • A large, roughly 1m tall tree in a 30cm grow pot.
  • Neat, symmetrical tiers of soft needled branches.
  • A living Christmas tree that goes back outdoors afterwards.

Full sun to partial shade outdoors, ideally sheltered. Young trees are frost tender on the Highveld, so protect it on frosty nights or keep the pot under cover.
